In July 2023, Sirehna orchestrated and hosted a pivotal survey aboard the vessel “Piana” of La Méridionale in Marseille, marking a significant milestone within the collaborative European project SEADETECT. Joined by esteemed partners such as Nexvision, Diades Marine, and ONERA, SIREHNA’s team conducted a comprehensive survey, setting the stage for groundbreaking advancements in maritime safety.
The vessel “Piana” represents a beacon of innovation as the first of its kind equipped for cetacean and OFNI (Object Floating in the Sea) detection and avoidance. This cutting-edge system is slated to undergo testing commencing in the summer of 2024. The deployment of this technology will not only revolutionize safety protocols but also serve as a testament to our dedication to the protection of marine life.
As we look ahead, the scope of this initiative extends beyond the shores of Marseille. Plans are underway to expand testing to a second vessel of La Méridionale and a vessel of our Belgian partner RBINS for trials in the North Sea. This expansion marks a crucial phase in our journey towards fostering safer maritime environments on a global scale.
As we reflect on this momentous occasion, it is important to acknowledge the tireless efforts of all those involved in the SEADETECT project. Their dedication and perseverance have been instrumental in bringing us to this point, and their continued support will be essential as we embark on the next phase of our journey.
