🌊 ‘LIFE SeaDetect’ to develop and demonstrate innovative solutions to significantly reduce the risk of collisions between vessels, cetaceans & Unidentified Floating Objects (UFOs).
Indeed, collisions between vessels and large cetaceans are the first reason for non-natural death for marine mammals that are currently listed as threatened in the IUCN Red List of endangered species.
💻 Partly funded by the European LIFE program, SeaDetect will achieve this very critical protection of cetaceans with 3 complementary systems: An on-board multi-sensors “DETECT BOX”: daylight color visible band camera + near-infrared band and thermal infrared band camera + LIDAR + RADAR and a data fusion and AI high-performance system to merge data and classify detection. A network of passive acoustic monitoring buoys to detect and geolocate marine mammals and allow the identification of protected corridors for vessels. An application to share the detection of whales and other obstacles with vessels present in the area.
🐳 During the Kick-Off meeting on October 25 & 26 of 2022, we met all our partners and launched the first steps for the following 12 months.
We will present our project on a dedicated website and share our advances and solutions with you in the very near future!
